say hi to tetsuo + akira

So the other day my friend showed me this movie called Akira
which was made in the 80's??? is it?

its so cool and wow.... kind of deep

and i realised

wow... tetsuo character reminds me of tetsuo ironman ALOT

maybe the inspiration came from that?

i saw tetsuo iron man before, akira ... so i was like wow
where the hell did tetsuo idea came from...wow

and i realised after akira, akira is like bible for japanse kids in that certain generation

cool.

like i really appreciate japanese people digging deep into their maniac nature
i think its good they make such a strong community out of a certain genre..

its really admirable but then seriously...stop bullying korean ppl...man....

like stop this bull shit with changing our history and appologize to us and DOK DO is seriously

korean island... are u kidding me.... come on seriously...

i know compared to the 90's ppl are changing views on it alot even in japan

and ive met japanese ppl who think differently and know what the older generation is doing

is totally racist and rude.... but then i wonder, if they idolize korean pop culture so much in the recent years

and still politically super rude to us in our independance day and not accepting the fact of attempting

genocide on us is really not cool.

also whats the deal with like third, fourth genration korean-japanese ppl...give them a fucking passport man

* if ur interested in this issue, heres a good korean-japanese kid movie called GO!

i had like british education and once i was kinda super angry when during history class
when they talk abt WW2 they talk abt how japanese were mean to chinese people
and dont even mention about like colonizing koreans?

hello they killed more koreans than chinese, and they banned korean language, cut ppls hair,
stole our national treasures....hellooooo

and also on saturdays i was going to korean school to learn korean+koreanhistory
and korean history books are..HARD CORE man.. our history is bascially 4,500 years old
and we need to learn all that + world history+ they really like....talk abt what japanese did to us like...forever....
like..okay....we get it ...no need to like drive us to hate....

i think its not right to like blame it on every japanese for being this way but the older generation should
teach history as it is , why cant they be like germans and like.. accept it?

teaching history the right way, and appologizing doesnt hurt them at all....

this year i had a japanese guy in their 20's calling me jo-sen jin? basically its equvilant to the n-word for koreans

and like... i mean...seriously like... its funny that some ppl still feel like its okay to behave that way

japan has many great qualities and i think its gonna change

but how much longer?

i feel like asian ppl are mean to other asians...why

just be nice to each other man....

omg is it coincidence? i wrote about something verrry similar just a while ago. right now im studying in tokyo and am from germany and was so upset that all they could talk about is the holocaust but they never ever talk about their own stuff and it really makes the impression as if they really think they were less guilty. i was SO upset i wrote a long post about it. i dont know, maybe you want to read it: http://pickedpics.blogspot.com/2009/05/hitler.html

oh i watched akira few weeks ago. quite a strong story.

whatever the reasons. this world is not fair. and even if we have friends who treat each other fairly. there still would be billions of others to make them see things fairly.

back before everyone dislikes each other for their caste or culture or just politics.

nowadays generations are like because of someone slept with their bfs and gfs or wearing the same outfit or just because has bigger boob or cock.

nothing seems very serious.

i don't see any "hatred" among people because of where their background is from. the new generations seem to be more diversed in every way. which is good.

i practically lectured my friend the other day about the war and torture...it is extremely unfair. Germany didnt try and hide what happened but japan seems too, not saying that all japanese are like this of course, but i mean the textbooks and the older generations more so than anything.

I'm Korean-Australian and I understand what you're talking about. In history throughout high school, studying WWII we talked about Japan but hardly even mentioned any of the atrocities in Korea. My grandparents have an ingrained hatred of the Japanese, and I can kind of understand, since their parents and family members were killed by them.

But then it dawned on me that history is subjective. A history of WWII taught in Australia is going to be different to what is taught in the US, the UK, Korea, Japan, etc. or what your grandparents tell you.

It seems no matter where you go there is always going to be some form of discrimination. That seems to be the conclusion I've come to and as a result I'm such a misanthrope. Discrimination is never OK, but when I'm discriminated against or witness blatant discrimination, I guess I'm not surprised. Humans are the worst sort of animal.

Wow. Thanks for posting this about some of the remnants of the old colonial Japan. Even though Japan is so advanced and open to new ideas and fashion, there are things which make me cringe about their socially closed society. I'm writing about the role of race/ethnicity in fashion this week for my blog, and love that there's a place for more Asian models today... And I love that you write about things that matter, too.

I always get Chinese people making fun of me because I'm Filipino. I totally agree with your "i feel like asian ppl are mean to other asians...why." It sucks.

I agree that the Japanese tormented and killed Koreans but I dislike the fact that you say MORE koreans were killed than chinese. I don't want to go into a history lesson here, but does it really matter how many people were killed in both country's ? No, no more koreans were killed than chinese were. But it doesn't matter, because no matter how you think of it, both country's were tortured. Not one was bullied more than the other. Both deserve to be acknowledged and both deserve to be apologized to. Not one more than the other.

yeah ...i get how u can mis interpret my text but im not saying its important that more koreans were killed than chinese... killing both of them sux. but then
they colonized us longer than the chinese... and by that they should teach in history class..but they acknowlege abuse of chinese in that time, but never talk abt korea.... :( THEY SHOULD APPOLOGIZE TO BOTH.

just wanted to say...I agree with the note as a whole, but the part about germans...not true. I'm from Poland (but I don't live there right now), and I keep on hearing about 'polish contenration camps' and other rubbish, although we were one of the nations that suffered the most. and it's unfair, just like the korean case. it's not about hate- it's about the truth.

i think it's scary that the textbooks will still talk about japan like that. i was in a class at parsons with mostly korean people and i was the only japanese people and the teacher actually brought the subject up ( i have no idea why, but she was caucasian ) and the korean kids said they were taught to not like the japanese kids. even this genereation!! it's horrible. past is past. we need to know history, but people of past need to know how to move on. peace is good. love is good. ps kudos to akira. claaaasic.

i think koreans will move on when the japanese government actually appologizes and returns our stolen national treasures, accepts that dokdo is korean teritory, and dont fucking go to shinsa to pray to japanes war criminal on our national independance day, and educate japanese people about what they have actually done.

I'm sorry but dokdo or takeshima is and always have been japanese, the reclamation by korea only have been made after the world war 2 when they (your korea) tought that they should take some territory after victory, but Korea could never show that dokdo has ever been korean, cus it always have been japanese. I'm sorry, yes, japanese changes history, but koreans do it aswell.
And please, read this blog: http://dokdo-or-takeshima.blogspot.com/

First off, I only came on this blog because I read about it on the nymag.com site. Power to you Daul for representing some MUCH needed AUTHENTIC looking Korean in the industry.
I couldn't help but post a comment here as well. I maybe first generation Korean American but I am no stranger to anti-Korean sentiments from Japanese people. Japanese Americans are different but Japanese from Japan are a different story... I've had countless older Japanese people telling me that the colonization of Korea helped the nation develop into a world power player-bullshit! Koreans were known to be unique individuals of their own in their craft, art, and culture. When Japan occupied Korea, they stole a lot of resources from us and incorporated into their own! I even had a German professor telling me that many Japanese people emulate Koreans but get better recognition for it because of their reputation. Last, there are a lot of resentment towards Korea from Japan right now because of our growing popularity in the Far East. We were the first Asian nation to MAKE it to the finals in the World Cup(2002), our pop culture has even spread outside of Asia to South America and Middle East(k drama shows are highly watched in Egypt and Mexico and Rain sold out shows everywhere he went!)and a global economic player, we're at the top of the leagues. In Germany, it's against the law of history is misinterpreted in textbooks but in Japan, ha! Many Japanese people our age are even oblivious to what has happened because of their reluctance to admit the atrocities they committed! The Japanese will apologize to anyone else first except for the Koreans and Chinese. They apologized to the U.S. for Pearl Harbor but what about to all the Korean and Chinese women/children who were forced to serve as "comfort women" and ended up killed or disgraced from their families? I was taught not to judge believe it or not but I cannot ever comprehend why Japanese people possess the most superior attitude of all races I encountered. Last, hate to throw this is but Japanese complain that Koreans are filthier but how come we have better teeth and dental hygiene than them?

yeah totally
im like... born in seoul but went to brit sch all my life and dealt with fucked up japanese ppl saying fucked up shit to me, and im really suprised some ppl dont even feel guilty. i think its superoicity complex. but what i hate more is koreans denying their korean heritage. i really dont respect that. im korean, im proud of my heritage, i accept what i am, although i wasnt brought up in korea. its more like japanese ppl if they accept what they did then they can move on. its like ppl when they are insecure abt themself or they have self-hate they vent it out on others, and pick other ppls flaws. and being korean isnt even a flaw, being a certain nationality or race wasnt by choice, so it makes it inevitable to change it. so its really childish and its more painful for them, to behave like this then to us, cos for koreans its annoying and unpleasent but we kinda move on and we are victims but we are driven to do better, and we survived all this crap from japanese , and we keep our heritage our culture our language. we are not influenced by other culture.

hey daul :D right now i am officialy a fan of yours!!! maaan, youre the only korean i know that has a kick ass style!!! by the way im from indonesia. and i agree with you. asians are rather mean to other asians. japan used to have this thing called "romusha" where they would force indonesians to be their slaves. and japanese did very horrible things to indonesian people long time ago. even the deustch aren't as rude as the japanese. but i love japan though ;p and korea too!

By the way there's this trend that has been booming in indonesia lately which is the korean serial drama: Boys Before Flower. have you heard of it? Did you watch it? i really dig korean right now because of that drama. but most of the people in k-pop are rather looks almost the same. so i was thrilled to find the underground look from korea. i found this blog yourboyhood.blogspot.com that leads me to your blog! AND YOU ARE FUCKING AWESOME DAUL!!!!!! xx oh and i also found this band called Pony. korean rock band. i watch them from youtube. they're fuckin awesome too. im just curuious are they friends of yours too?

if you still want to compete by comparing whose longer, then Chinese citizens and aborigines were colonized longer starting from the 19th century vs. 20th cent. Korea, why even try to exemplify who suffered more, does it validate the atrocity more
